I spent several weeks photographing Utah Lake, travelling to different marinas and tucked away beaches. I have always appreciated the beauty that the lake adds to the valley, but I had caught myself believing the popular narrative that Utah Lake is useless and filthy. I decided to find out the truth for myself.
Spending time here became more than just a photography project. It gave me a reason to get outside and reconnect with this beautiful place I call home. What I found was more than I expected--quiet moments, signs of life, signs of use. I saw wildlife thriving, families fishing, and planes landing. I recognized just how loved the lake is by the people who frequent it, and I felt disappointed that I have never taken the time to truly enjoy this place.
Through these photographs, I hope others will begin to reconsider the way we talk about Utah Lake and the importance of caring for the spaces that we share.
